- Planning your holiday whether it is the yearly annual getaway or a short break can be fraught with difficulties. The idea behind Recommended Family Holidays was to try & make it so much easier for you. As a mum myself, I used to find it so difficult to find that perfect holiday - when we had kids, our requirements changed overnight. Mostly, we needed flexibility - babies & young kids want things whenever they want them, not on a pre-designed schedule which is what you find in most hotels. However, that need for flexibility had to be balanced with the word "holiday" i.e. I didn't want to do just the same thing in a different location, I wanted to make it easy for the whole family - what do they say about happy children = happy parents - well, it is completely true!
- My kids are now slightly older so again, we have changed our holiday requirements from a self catering cottage with a shared pool to something with a bit more going on so that they can join up with other kids & have plenty of things to do. So now we seem to be going on villa holidays on ready-made resorts i.e. one's where you have your own villa, but you have all the facilities available onsite if you want them like restaurants, shared pools, kids entertainment and of course they have to be near a beach now too! Yet still, if I want peace & quiet, I can relax by our own pool with a cool drink whilst slowly working my way through my holiday reading.
- Anyway, I digress, the purpose of this new section of my website is to come up with a series of articles that might make finding your holiday easier. So for example, I already have so-called general sections if you already know the sort of holiday facilities you require. But, I also have a few other articles focusing on ski resort guides.
- Taking the family away on their first skiing holiday can be even more traumatic that a summer holiday. Again, through my own experience I have found the key is to go to the "right" resort. We drive to the French Alps each year as there always seems to be so much stuff we need to take & I cant' be bothered to carry it through the airport, to the waiting transfer coach & on to the resort, instead I just pack up the car. We also tend to take the children later on in the ski season - there is nothing worse than constantly hearing "I'm cold" but also don't forget about yourself. Ski holidays are not cheap and therefore you must go to a resort that suits every member of your group from complete beginnners to those who want to play off-piste. Finally the right accommodation will ensure that you have a successful ski holiday every year. To this end, I have written a few articles on my favourite resorts in the French Alps:
